thunderstorms battering the midwest killing at least 5 injuring scores of others and carving a wide swath of destruction through 7 states including illinois, indiana, ohio, missouri, wisconsin, michigan michigan, and k, and kentucky. the line of storms is bearing down on pennsylvania, new jersey and new york city where it is expected to arrive sometime before the monday morning rush. three of the deaths were in washington county and southern illinois. mike tobin is reporting live. >> let me show you something really remarkable in terms of visuals. that's a stud sticking outside of the house. this isn't something that came from inside of the house it was something flying around from the force of the storm and i am pailed into the side of the house. that gives you an idea of how

much force the debris has. the letters okay written in red this means the first responders came through and determined everyone in this house was accounted for. the people in this house the people in this row of houses are feeling pretty lucky because right behind them is the devon shire or trailed edge neighborhood where we see hundreds of thousands that are ripped right down to the foundation turned into piles of lumber. there's a local gentlemen who took photographs of that during the day. you can see that the piles of lum der that -- lumber that used to be houses they are memories. you see all of the power lines that were down the trees stripped of all of the branchs or knocked over all together. the people who live around here say there wasn't much warning at all. when he saw an odd scene of people walking through the neighborhoods with axes or chain saws ripping through the debris trying to free any people who

may be trapped pets or belongings from inside the debris pile. people also say there was a very strong smell of gas in the area when they immediately returned. that is because of all of the gas lines broken. it seems that has been remedied the gas lines have been shut off there has been a lot of wind coming through this area. nothing ignited. another thing that is remarkable to see out here in terms of all of the devastation is the way tornadoes are willy seem to pick their targets. you have these two neighborhoods that were destroyed by the force of the storm and you come across the street and you see homes that haven't been through a storm at all it looks like. remarkable to see. >> is the reason given the devastation that the casualties are relatively low that there was adequate warning? >> it really seems to be remarkable now with all of the technology, with all of the iphones and all of the trained people who get on the air and start working all of these different communication networks

the message does largely get to the people and the people know to take them seriously, get down in the basement. in this case what we are hearing from the people in the neighborhood is that it all happened very fast. >> mike tobin, thank you. 90 minutes after it hit washington county and southern illinois the line of storms cross over downtown chicago and fans at soldier field were evacuated from the stands forcing a 2 hour delay in the bears baltimore raven's game. john is a sports reporter from csn chicago. john what was it like? tell us what happened? >> it is not like anything i have seen. i have been involved with tornadoes. this -- soldier field sits maybe a quarter of a mile from downtown. you can see the buildings. you could not see even one end of the stadium the sheets of rain were getting so strong. i have to spend stadium

author -- commend stadium authorities. they took it seriously. they evacuated the fans took it to heart got out of the stands. even the upper deck took a little while longer and the players and the coaches when they left the field everythibod realized this is really serious. even when they were visible fans thought maybe this was going to happen. it was ferocious and kept coming which was kind of phenomenal if you look at the footage. i was seeing shapes it was like watching a video game. >> thank you very much. unlike the power outage in the super bowl this time the ravens lost 23-20 on a field goal in over time. how many tornadoes touched down this sunday afternoon and

evening? where is the line of storms this sunday night? janice dean has the latest from fox news severe weather center. how many tornadoes and where the hell is this thing? >> preliminary reports say over 70 tornadoes. of course we have to see how many. it will take a while for the national weather service to go out and assess the damage in illinois and indiana and all of those areas that we received tornadoes. looks like this will be a historic november outbreak across the midwest. we will have the totals for you certainly tomorrow with the national weather service. we have watches and warnings in effect. mainly severe thunderstorm watches. the real punch of the storm has diminished which is good news. we have isolated threats for tornadoes. right now just severe thunderstorm warnings. not to say these couldn't be dangerous. we could see wind gusts in excess of 60-70 miles per hour. very strong winds as well as

hail, heavy downpours and threats of isolated tornadoes. as we go through the evening and into the overnight hours we are not out of the woods yet across the ohio river valley and tennessee river valley. eventually this line will push through in the overnight especially as folks are trying to get in along the i 95 corridor. we will keep you up to date with the latest. >> this severe weather heading east. fox 5 meteorologist audrey has the latest. when can we expect it in the new york city area. >> looks like we are in it store for an active evening through the overnight hours. as janice showed the front is micking it's way through the ohio valley. we are expecting the brunt to roll through about 8:00 in the morning. there will be a squall line moving through between # 3 and 5:00 a.m. much of the action will be heading out to the east and be out of here by the morning commute. by 8:00 a.m. plenty of sunshine from the west and things will slowly begin to clear out from

west to east. the tri-state area encompasses new york, new york city, new jersey and connecticut. winds speeds will be increasing out ahead of a cold front. the squall line will roll through between 3 and 5:00 a.m. it will produce strong storms it could be severe and we could have damaging winds possible. that appears to be the biggest threat with the system coming through the area tonight. >> audrey, we will check with you later in the program. jeff is on the phone. what did you see, mate? where were you? >> made it up to st. louis and drove up north. i took chicago, peoria and we tracked a significant thunderstorm across illinois of course the most devastated area this evening is the area east of peoria there. that area took a direct hit and then a lot of heavy damage in that area. they had a number of fatalities in washington and we understand in the last 15 minutes the

governor brought the national guard out. i understand the death toll is up to 5. in illinois and indiana they had tornadoes track southeast of chicago and northwest of indianapolis and major damage with injuries in those areas. it has been a major outbreak today. >> it seems late in the season for this kind of tornadic activity, isn't it? >> it is. this time of year to give you a perspective of records if the tornado rated east of peoria it was an ef 4 in that area it will be the first ef 4 since 1950 in illinois. unprecedented. occasionally happens. it was a major outbreak. last reports i have now is 79-20 of those with wind damage and 48 hail reports. this is a major event with a lot

outbreak this is really what we see this type of devastation afterwards and unfortunately four people lost their lives today. >> office of emergency management, do you have the assets you need to take care of the emergencies the victims the scores of jushed? >> the injury numbers are still coming in. the hospital medical treatment is what they need and they need to transport them. that slows down the numbers in terms of reporting. most likely we will be in the hundreds. it is something you need to watch closely. >> gail is the kentucky mayor they were next in line. tell us what happened in peduka? >> the storm came up quickly. it was a very fast moving storm.

we were lucky in ped duka because we really had very little damage julimbs. it devastated that small community. >> you have the women see of the storm tipping you and coming down so heavily on your neighbor so it is an irony. tell us what it is like in the region? oo we have responded to a request from the community for assistance. they are aimed at looting and the curfew which is 6:00 a.m. to 6 pfrment p.m. they were in a search and rescue from victims. >> your emergency responders your first responders over to illinois.

city of toronto. that's when city council will em bares him by stripping him virtually of all of his powers as mayor. according to the interview i did with rob ford he is having none of it he is not going anywhere. think of this guy he was a wildly popular politician. he elected with the biggest majority of votes that any politician has ever received because they don't directly elect a prime minister. he is the mayor of the 5th largest city in north america and he would like one day to become prime minister. i started off the interview with him by asking him why he would risk all of that just to smoke crack. >> if you want to get personal i think we can get personal with anybody not just politicians, everybody has done something in their life that they don't want people to know about some more than once. john, bottom line is i know how to pay tax payer's money.
